Interesting day.
Sort of a lull after yesterday.
I know life can't always give you 24 hr. cycles of birthdays; but then, it's not supposed to give you the news of famous people dying on a daily basis either.
When Seth, my 11 yr. old, told me that Billy Mays, the celebrated pitch-man, had just been found dead in his FL. home, those smudgy glasses of surrealism suddenly flew down over my eyes. Not that I was a big follower or anything, but I did sit next to the guy on a flight home a few months ago. He was cool. Not nearly as arrogant as you'd expect his persona to make him out to be. How crazy is it that he & these other mid-lifers have dropped off right under our media-heavy noses. Talk about feeling no control.
This week should serve as a megaphone for everyone who lives by the notion of invincibility. As a matter of fact, Mr. Jackson even used "invincible" to title his last studio project (which reeked, regrettably), & he obviously wasn't.
So, here I go again. Ranting about holding my wife & kids a little closer today. Allowing my heart & mind to settle into even more reflection. Treasuring hours vs. throwing away entire days. Living the PLAY button less, pressing PAUSE a lot more...
These truly are the moments.
Why is it that you say something profound every time you post a blog entry? Thanks for making us think a little more.

Truly deep thoughts as you knocked back some ribs for dinner. It will make me ponder on my day's events as well. BTW, it should be interesting to hear your thoughts after the Ben & Jerry freebie today. Dude, pictures of the new look???

You took the words right out of my mouth, Marty. I grew up on Michael, though I am still a "baby" at the age of 22. I remember as as kid trying...with emphasis on trying to dance to Michael's beats and Janet Jackson's as well. I was very saddened by his death, but he wasn't invincible. There is no doubt that his music will have an impression on the world for many years to come, but death cannot hide from anyone. It chilled me to the bone to hear of Farrah's death, Michael's and then Billy Mays' death (and it is already freaky that Michael and Billy were BOTH 50 when they passed)just threw a wrench in the works. All it really does is show that God is in control of everything that goes on around here. He can take anyone at anytime. He doesn't see fame or glory. People are just people to Him, no matter how glorious (to humanity) or infamous. No one can hide from Him. All I can do is just pray for the families of these people that died, pray for their souls, and continue to listen to Michael's music and search for Billy's commercials. :)
